Lifestyle influencer Cyrene Tankard believes “everything you need is already inside of you, you just need to activate it”. I had the pleasure to catch up with her about the inspiration behind her platform cyrenelovette.com, her favorite and least favorite things about being a creative, and the sacrifices made while running a massive brand.
What inspired you to start a brand that deals with beauty, health, and inspiration?
CL: “Beauty: I’ve always been into makeup and hair care, but I’ve never pursued a career in it. I decided to give it a chance and it flowed in organically with my daily activities. I got to explore my own talent with makeup and hair products and skin care etc.
Health: I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis and instead of killing off my body with medicines from the FDA, I went the holistic route. It is so much more fulfilling, safe, and my goal is to share my knowledge with my supporters and let them know they can have access to a better method of healing.
Inspiration: Growing up a PK, I think there are just certain things that are innate. From an early age, I was groomed to be in leadership positions such as sports, organizations, ambassador programs, and even cotillion. This led to me speaking to other students about my experiences while I also gained knowledge. Once I gained the platform of television, I was able to expand and speak formally to young girls.”
At what point in your life did you know you wanted to be a creator?
CL: “I’d say my sophomore year of college I really wanted to create more, I was doing music, getting into fashion, and just utilizing my talents. “
What are your favorite and least favorite things about being a creative?
CL: “My favorite part about being a creative would be the build up to the breakthrough! My least favorite part would be over thinking and scaring myself out of something I’m creating or releasing.”
What are some major sacrifices and challenges you face running a massive brand? What lessons did you learn from them?
CL: “I definitely sacrifice the security of a pay check every two weeks, and sometimes just wanting to check out and do whatever I want. I have to be conscious of every move I make because someone out there might be affected by what they see me do. This teaches me discipline, patience, and discretion.”
What’s the best advice you have for someone who hasn’t discovered their purpose yet?
Invest in yourself, read, try new things, and talk with God! Ask yourself what makes you mad and what makes you happy. You have to enter on a journey to self!”
What keeps you consistent and disciplined when you feel like giving up?
CL: “I always think bigger than myself. I can’t be selfish because there’s a bigger mission that needs to be carried out.”
What’s your biggest goal this year?
CL: ” My goal is to close out the year with a bang regarding contracts, collaborations, and campaigns.”
What are some skin care regimens you do and follow by?
CL: “I start with a face wash from skin fix and then use some witch hazel. Then I use Urban Skin Rx Glow Serum. For SPF, I use Ren skincare and a herbal mist from Jurlique.
CL: “Everything you need is already inside of you. You just need to activate it.”
