What Y’all Readin’?

Hey Guys!

I’m back for another blog and the topic for this lovely Wednesday morning is READING! As a blogger, I love to write but another favorite pastime of mine is reading also. I am a very avid reader and when I have time, I will probably read up to four books in a month! A couple of months ago, my cousin and dear friend Stacy Thigpen started a local book club where we meet up every month and discuss the monthly read picked. We’re only in Month 3, but it’s been super fun! Plus we make the meetings EXTRA fun by dressing up as the book’s theme/characters while also eating foods and drinks that are themed with the book as well. Talk about a vibe! We discuss our likes and dislikes about the book, favorite characters and development, and other topics involving the book and its relevancy to society today. Another cool thing we do is change hosts for each meeting, so every member has an opportunity to host and pick the book the club will read for that month! The books we’ve read so far are Love Drunk Cowboy by Carolyn Brown, The Other Black Girl by Zakiya Dalila Harris, and Battle Royale by Koushun Takami. Our current read is A Promised Land by Barack Obama which is being hosted by club member Rebekah in early February. The book club’s mission is make sure our reads are very diverse and informational, for there is always knowledge to learn in all subjects and genres!

Reading is fundamental.

You can never know too much.

Knowledge is power...”

We made our own sushi and also had homemade Ramen for the themed food by our club member Ariane!
Talk about YUM!!

This month, I’ve also started reading Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston. I’ve had the book for years, but I’m finally diving in and reading once and for all! I seen the movie years ago starring Halle Berry and Micheal Ealy, and I loved it! I’m pretty sure I will feel the same way about the book when I finish reading it. Another bonus read I plan on reading this month was a book recommended by Stacy called Verity by Colleen Hoover. Stacy & Ariane raved about this book, so I need to hurry up and see what its hitting for! If you’ve read any of the above reads, share and tell me how you felt about them in the comment section!! If you’re a Zora Neale Huston fan like me, let’s talk about that too!
