I recently compiled a list of my favorite classic fall movies that always puts me in a happy autumn mood. Check them out! Feel free to leave feedback and comments if the films listed below leaves you with a feeling of nostalgia like it does for me!
1.) The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) – A film that follows the misadventures of Jack Skellington, Halloweentown’s beloved pumpkin king.
2.) Hocus Pocus (1993) – The classic tale of the three evil witches we all love! A curious youngster moves to Salem, where he struggles to fit in before awakening a trio of diabolical witches that were executed in the 17th century.
3.) When Harry Met Sally (1989)- A story of two friends falling in love over a decade of having a platonic relationship.
4.) Stepmom (1998)– A terminally ill woman has to settle on her former husband’s new lover, who will be their children’s stepmother.
5.) Autumn in New York (2000)- romantic drama about an aging playboy who falls for a sweet, but terminally ill woman.
6.) Practical Magic (1998)– Two witch sisters, raised by their eccentric aunts in a small town, face closed-minded prejudice and a curse which threatens to prevent them ever finding lasting love.
7.) Dazed and Confused (1993) – The adventures of high school and junior high students on the last day of school in May 1976.
8.) You’ve Got Mail (1998)– Two business rivals who despise each other in real life unwittingly fall in love over the Internet.
9.) Halloweentown (1998)- Two business rivals who despise each other in real life unwittingly fall in love over the Internet.
10.) Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009)- An urbane fox cannot resist returning to his farm raiding ways and then must help his community survive the farmers’ retaliation.
11.) Edward Scissorhands (1990)- An artificial man, who was incompletely constructed and has scissors for hands, leads a solitary life. Then one day, a suburban lady meets him and introduces him to her world.
12.) Mystic Pizza (1988)– Three teenage girls come of age while working at a pizza parlor in the Connecticut town of Mystic.
13.) Sleepy Hollow (1999) – Ichabod Crane is sent to Sleepy Hollow to investigate the decapitations of three people, with the culprit being the legendary apparition, The Headless Horseman.
14.) The Craft (1996)– A newcomer to a Catholic prep high school falls in with a trio of outcast teenage girls who practice witchcraft, and they all soon conjure up various spells and curses against those who anger them.
15.) October Sky (1999) –The true story of Homer Hickam, a coal miner’s son who was inspired by the first Sputnik launch to take up rocketry against his father’s wishes.
16.) It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (1966) – The Peanuts gang celebrates Halloween while Linus waits for the Great Pumpkin.
17.) Addams Family Values (1993)- The Addams Family try to rescue their beloved uncle Fester from his gold-digging new love, a black widow named Debbie.
18.) Monster House (2006) – Three teens discover that their neighbor’s house is really a living, breathing, scary monster.
19.) Mona Lisa Smile (2003) –A free-thinking art professor teaches conservative 1950’s Wellesley girls to question their traditional social roles.
20.) Matilda (1996) – Story of a wonderful little girl, who happens to be a genius, and her wonderful teacher vs. the worst parents ever and the worst school principal imaginable.
21.) Silver Linings Playbook (2012) – After a stint in a mental institution, former teacher Pat Solitano moves back in with his parents and tries to reconcile with his ex-wife. Things get more challenging when Pat meets Tiffany, a mysterious girl with problems of her own.
22.) Dirty Dancing (1987) – Spending the summer at a Catskills resort with her family, Frances “Baby” Houseman falls in love with the camp’s dance instructor, Johnny Castle.
23.) Love Story (1970) – A boy and a girl from different backgrounds fall in love regardless of their upbringing – and then tragedy strikes.
24.) Eat Pray Love (2010) – A married woman realizes how unhappy her marriage really is, and that her life needs to go in a different direction. After a painful divorce, she takes off on a round-the-world journey to “find herself”.
25.) The Breakfast Club (1985) – Five high school students meet in Saturday detention and discover how they have a lot more in common than they thought.
26.) Halloween (1978) – Fifteen years after murdering his sister on Halloween night 1963, Michael Myers escapes from a mental hospital and returns to the small town of Haddonfield, Illinois to kill again.
27.) BeetleJuice (1988) – The spirits of a deceased couple are harassed by an unbearable family that has moved into their home, and hire a malicious spirit to drive them out.
28.) Remember the Titans (2000) – The true story of a newly appointed African-American coach and his high school team on their first season as a racially integrated unit.
29.) Good Will Hunting (1997) – Will Hunting, a janitor at M.I.T., has a gift for mathematics, but needs help from a psychologist to find direction in his life.
30.) Ghostbusters (1984) – Three former parapsychology professors set up shop as a unique ghost removal service.
