Amongst friends and family Michelle is the go-to for all things beauty, fashion and brunch. A connoisseur of beauty products, she earned her stripes at noteworthy brands like Vincent Longo, MAC and Make Up For Ever. Dubbed “Brunchnista” by her besties due to her never-ending pursuit of the best in brunch, Michelle’s return to New York birthed the concept of brunch as more than a merger of meals, but as a behavior. “Brunch isn’t confined to one table,” Michelle clarifies. “I can brunch with different sets of friends all day Sunday. It’s about great food, laughs and connection.” I caught up with Michelle as we discussed Brunchnista and the do’s of branding. ![]() Tell us about the start-up of Brunchnista, and what inspired you to start your brand?MS: “Brunchnista is a lifestyle luxury brand for women who love brunch and beyond. So that includes brunch, decor, fashion, empowerment and etiquette. It was born out of all the elements that make me special. I love brunch as a way to connect with friends. I thought why not start a platform for women love to do the same. I looked at the brunch space and noticed that my perspective was different and figured why not start it. “
What’s the most important thing to remember about branding?MS: “Always be consistent! Pick colors and complimentary colors and logos very carefully. These will be your brands identifiers, that show up before you do. “
What did you want to be as a child?MS: I wanted to be a hair dresser / lawyer.
Brunch is much appreciated! What is your favorite brunch dist?MS: “Chicken and waffles perfect combo Of sweet and savory .”
How do you define success?MS: “Believing in yourself enough to follow your hearts desire and not letting fear paralyze you. “
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned in running a creative business?MS: ” It may seem all fun and pretty on the outside but every decision you make could be helping or hurting your business and your are solely responsible for the success of your business based on your ability to make decisions and rise to the occasion when fires need to be extinguished.”
![]() How is a typical day for you?MS: “I start my day with social media posting and engaging. Next I answer emails and respond to pressing items. Then i spend an insane amount of time scouring vendors. Researching , screen shooting pics and reading articles on anything instagram analytics to box vendors in China. I love research and sometimes I can get lost down a rabbit hole of the worldwide web. There is really no end to my day a a creative entrepreneur. Ideas come in the morning at 3am or at 5 pm. I’m constantly recording things in my iPhone notes in anticipation for my next move. This world never stops. “
What motivates you to keep going during times of adversity?MS: “The brunchbabe community keeps me going. The love that they show me keeps me motivated to create more and be more. Also knowing that what I’m building is an inspiration to so many. Im the first person in my family to venture into this entrepreneurial space. So excited to leave a legacy of success for the next generation. “
![]() What the best advice for someone considering partnerships with other brands/companies?MS: “Build you brand. Create a strong voice and presence. Find a niche market and find a creative voice and a unique way to tell a story. ”
What are the major keys to running a consistent and growing company?MS: “Authenticity, and unique perspective is the major key to growing your brand. There is a lot of “samesness” out in the business world. Find a way to stand out! “

Michelle Sprott’s evolution into the independent, street smart, sophisticated woman she is today began in the Big Apple. The Brooklyn-bred beauty met her rites of passage in one of the most multicultural cities of the world and emerged with a keen sense of community. She carried that sense with her to Huntsville, Alabama and back, earning her BS in Biology from the historically Black Oakwood University.
