What inspired you to start Brand You HQ?

NW: “I was inspired to start Brand You HQ after I hung up my one-on-one coaching hat early 2018. Coaching burnt me out but I still wanted to find a way to serve my audience on a larger scale. I had been creating courses from scratch all throughout the year all of which had great feedback and was getting the people in my tribe results. I asked myself, if I could create a space that would help transform female entrepreneurs personal brands, what would it look like. That’s when Brand You HQ was born. I wanted something that was affordable that I could maintain and put a great deal of my focus on this year.”

As a mommy and author, how do you balance all your businesses?

NW: “I often get asked this question and my answer is always I don’t. I don’t balance it all. I have a team that consists of my mom (who I just officially put on payroll!) who helps me with my son Tyler and many of the administrative the final decisions I have to make a working entrepreneur. In a nutshell she keeps me SANE! Lol I also have an incredible virtual assistant who handles many of my behind the scenes logistics and customer correspondence. These are essentially the two people who keep things running overall. The bottom line is you can’t do business alone. A team is necessary.”

What are some topics you discuss on your podcast, Table Talk With Tottie?

NW: “Table Talk with Tottie is the place where I can just let my hair down and talk about everything that I am passionate about that relates to the millennial creative. I tend to center my topics based off of current events, entrepreneurship and lifestyle.”

How did you get into podcasting and what’s your favorite thing about it?

NW: “I started my podcast in 2016 after I decided blogging wasn’t for me. I still wanted a way to build a relationship with my team and give them the uncut version of me while still providing value. I’ll say that’s my favorite part. I often tell people that I “record from the heart.” This basically means I’m not the average podcast show with a set schedule. I only publish episodes when I have something super valuable to say or offer my listeners.”

What’s the best advice you have for aspiring podcasters?

NW: “My best advice for aspiring podcasters is to JUST START and don’t get caught up in expensive equipment. I recorded 3 full seasons using my iPhone voice recorder in the small closet of my 1 bedroom apartment up until this year and now my show is on every major podcasting platform to include iHeartRadio and Spotify!”

What are some of your favorite books/podcasts?

NW: “A few of my holy grail of books are Own the Room, The E-Myth Revisited and Secrets of the Millionaire Mind. As far as podcasts, the ones that I listen to weekly are Women Evolve w/Sarah Jakes Roberts, Style Your Mind, Small Doses with Amanda Seales, Oprah’s Masterclass and Myleik’s MyTaught You when she posts new episodes.”

Has a mistake ever led you to success?

NW: “ABSOLUTELY! Most of my mistakes has eventually led to a success and if they haven’t yet I know they will. I’ve literally created some of my best work (books, courses, podcast episodes) as a result of mistakes I’ve made and that’s where my people get the most valuable takeaways.”

What’s the most important lesson you’re learned in running a creative business?

NW: “Put er’thang in writing and always make sure that what you’re creating is 100% a reflection of the legacy you want to leave.”

What do you like to do in your spare time?

NW: “Watch wig reviews on Youtube! 😝
