Confessions of a Millennial Business Woman

I am an Alpha Female and I’m not ashamed about it.

I have no problem creating my own reality. I make this possible through my work and and brand. This causes me to have a tough skin that everybody will not be able to handle. When people refer to me as an alpha female, I don’t get offended. I take the statement as a compliment. I don’t mind taking risks and investing in myself. The main thing I learned as an alpha female is to stay in my lane and always prepare myself for the unexpected. I don’t compete with other millennial women. Instead I network with them and learn as much as I can from women who have been in the game longer than I have. Everyone has a way to pave, and I have to be ready to pave mine. I am intimidating to those who don’t understand my mission and my purpose. I have to make rules for myself in order to have a strong foundation.

A 9-5  isn’t enough for me.

The key word I said is me. Not having a 9-5 is not the right choice for everyone. Entrepreneurship is not everybody’s forte and that’s okay! You can be successful and dope working a 9-5! It’s all about a person’s goals and perspective in life. Time is the essence and TIME MANAGEMENT is the key! I don’t care how busy you may be. When you find your passion or something you’re good at, you will not let small obstacles get in your way. Make time. Whether its skipping a nap to finish my book or write a blog. Or choosing to stay in a weekend to prepare my agenda for next week instead of hanging with my friends. It’s all about how much time you can sacrifice to get to where you want to go.

I am not afraid to take risks on business moves.

I am afraid of many things, but I am not afraid of me. I know what I can handle and what I can’t. Therefore, I know how much to put on my plate. I know how much I can chew off. Throughout the year, I have launched ideas that I thought would be a good fit for my brand. Some of them worked and some of them didn’t. The fear of failing can cause people to not pursue their dreams. Don’t be that person.

The answer no doesn’t exist. Try another door.

I am not afraid to ask questions or gain information I need. If I don’t know the answer to something, I look for it. I network to find out the information I want to receive. If the resource doesn’t have the answer, that is when I look at other options and routes to be successful. If I reach out to someone and they don’t want to help me, I find somebody else who will. A setback doesn’t mean you give up.

I am not afraid to spend or lose money if it helps my business in the long run.

IT TAKES MONEY TO MAKE MONEY! If I don’t trust investing in myself, how can I expect others to believe in me? If I can’t afford to take risks in my brand, I don’t take them until I can afford them. I also ask myself if the business move is worth it financially or not. If it is, I will invest and do a trial basis to see how it turns out. I set a budget for my brand also knowing that I also have a life to live and bills to be paid.

I am a woman and I am black, meaning the odds are double against me.

Self note: work harder and never let them see you fall. Be smarter and always a step ahead. Different odds are against different people. Learn yours.

I am not the only Millennial Woman with a purpose, but nobody has the same vision as me.

They are plenty of women out there doing the same things I’m doing, but they can’t do it like me because they are not me and vice versa. The only thing I can do is focus on my vision and what’s best for me. I don’t mind being mentored or taking advice for people who have the best interests for me, but I also have to remember to make the best decisions for me.

With all this being said, millennial women are taking over and making the world a better place one day at a time. I’m glad to be a part of it.

Until next time,
